Positive Psychology and the Yoga Practitioner: a 4 week course

Date: Monday 26th November, 3rd, 10th and 17th December 2018

Time: 19:45 - 20:45

Location: Triyoga Chelsea

Cost: £60

Positive Psychology is the scientific study of happiness, flourishing, well-being, as opposed to traditional psychology which focuses on pain, suffering, trauma, and distress.

Positive Psychology is dedicated to the study of that which is life-fulfilling rather than that which is life-depleting. It complements the classical discipline bringing to the field insights on how to enhance wellness as well as how to manage ill-health.

The field is built on the work of prominent Psychologist and father of modern Positive Psychology Martin Seligman and his PERMA theory of flourishing.

This four week course will focus on recent research findings in Positive Psychology and relate them back to the yoga practitioners' experience on (and off) the mat.

The sessions will be organised around physical asana, lectures and take home exercises. The course is designed to be practical and useful as well as theoretical, equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, evidence based techniques and exercises to boost happiness levels and improve overall well-being.

Topics covered will include: the PERMA model of flourishing, happiness and how to increase it, engagement and finding flow, and positive 'mindsets' to encourage continuous personal growth.

Related concepts which will be discussed include; gratitude, kindness, mindfulness, emotional intelligence and resilience.

Mahatma Gandhi says, "A man is but a product of his thoughts. What he thinks he becomes." Positive Psychology gives us the tools to think and behave in ways which help us flourish.
